Cinema operators who can target their audiences? Film fans not getting frustrated about missed films? How to take customer loyalty seriously, reward it and go digital: the start-up Cinuru Research makes the customers part of the cinema. The five founders – Martina Berger, Jannis Funk, Tobias Lohse, Paulo Ruhrländer and Jean-David Herld – have developed an innovative customer loyalty system for independent cinemas. In an interview conducted on the green sofa of the MediaTechLab Lounge at Studio Five, we talked about Tasty – absolutely! -, full cinemas and Potsdam.

As the Cinuru Research founding team, we are…

…film enthusiasts and tech nerds… or maybe vice versa.

Our Cinuru Research business idea arose…

… because we’d noticed that cinemas are finding it increasingly difficult to reach the right audience even though there are models from the online world to link up the right films with the right audiences. In conversations with cinema-goers, we have often heard that they want more information from their cinema and are frustrated because they often miss films. That’s exactly what we want to change and have Cinuru creating a link between cinemas and their customers.

The founding team of one woman and four men got to know each other…

…in many different ways. Some at primary school, others at university. What we now have in common is setting up the company together and our passion for films, and after work often sees us going to the cinema together.

Cinuru Research is…

…the link between cinemas and their audiences. Our Cinuru cinema app rewards loyal cinema-goers with premiums and personalised film recommendations. Cinemas and the film industry can become better acquainted with their customers and optimise their marketing and programme planning.

For us, Potsdam is…

…the place where the film and tech worlds collide and it gets very creative.

In 2021, Cinuru will be…

…the tool that helps every film fan to find films to their taste and will also fill the cinemas in the future.

We have already worked as…

…film producer, software developer, set production manager, financial analyst, PR assistant, entrepreneur, …

What we have to offer…

A Master and a Diploma in Film and Television Production, a Master and a Bachelor in Computer Science, a Bachelor in Philosophy and Physics, a Bachelor in Business Administration and a Master in Finances, six different cinema bonus cards…good that these will soon be available digitally in Cinuru!

All five of us think this film is great…

…but by the time we’ve finished discussing it, the nachos are gone. 😉

We see AI as having…

… great potential for getting better acquainted with cinema-goers and giving them personal film recommendations.

Our favourite location for networking in Babelsberg is…

…the Tasty, the bistro on the Studio Babelsberg lot. On Fridays, there are burgers, it’s always packed and you meet film producers, start-ups, students, actors, film funders, set designers… always fascinating to see who’s sitting at your table .

We recommend every startup…

…to build up broad-based networks and exchange ideas with other start-ups and experienced companies – there are so many questions that it’s good to be able to help one another.

That’s still important for us…

…the exchange with other founders!

You can find us at…

August-Bebel-Str. 26-53, Studio Five, 3rd floor, at the end of the corridor.
