We are starting the new year 2022 with our portfolio team freque. freque’s founders - Justin La Vallee and Tobias Wagner - belong in Babelsberg, the media city, if only because they are film composers and sound designers. With freque, they have launched a platform that will make things easier for film and TV productions in particular, but at the same time works for composers and musicians. Their motto: listen, look and license! But read for yourself what freque is up to.
MTH Accelerator: What did you do before freque?
Justin: I’ve spent my professional life as a composer for film, TV and advertising. I’m originally from Los Angeles and have been living in Berlin for just over six years now.
Tobias: Prior to starting freque, I have been writing music for films. Along the way, I have also started a couple of companies and was taught some early lessons in entrepreneurship. That didn’t keep me from doing it again - in fact, I am glad to have embarked on this endeavor with some valuable experiences from the past.
MTH Accelerator: What are you doing now, besides freque?
Justin: freque consumes me. Getting a new company off the ground requires all of your focus and dedication. We’ve had an incredibly dynamic couple of years and are in a growth phase. I have to say that this is the most exciting chapter of my life so far.
Tobias: Music doesn’t just leave your life. Of course, I’m still making music, but now only projects that I thoroughly enjoy: My wife Glacéia Henderson and I are working on an album of songs we’ll be releasing. It’s important to have creative output in other areas to keep the ideas coming.
MTH Accelerator: What is Freque?
freque: freque is a platform that connects filmmakers to music and provides them with tools to review, communicate and make decisions. It’s currently the only tool that allows film teams to listen to music options with their film, talk with their team and license music.
MTH Accelerator: Why the MTH Accelerator?
freque: The MTH Accelerator taught us a lot. We had the support we needed to learn about fundraising, shape our ideas and focus our energy in the right directions. We’re very grateful for having that opportunity.

freque: freque was born out of our experience in this industry. It’s a solution to problems we’ve dealt with for many years and a dedication to finding better ways for film and music to come together.
